This is Nuuk! - Greenland's Capital City Will Surprise You! (Cultural Travel Guide)
Founded as Godthåb by Hans Egede ("The Apostle of Greenland"), Nuuk is Greenland's capital and principal urban centre. As more Greenlanders become attracted to the capital's economic and cultural opportunities the pace of construction is relentless. This growth is both exciting and challenging. This short film provides some historical context as well as an overview of the sights and sounds. A particular thank you goes out to Ejvind Elsner of Atlantic Music for his hospitality and insight.
In response to the many negative comments about the comment in the film about the legacy of the missionary Hans Egede I would like to point out that this is not my personal view - it is the established Greenlandic view as expressed to visitors of the National Museum.

Greenland - Since 8 years I'm traveling to this magical country. Today quiet and untouched places are becoming more and more rare. On my first visit to Greenland, I was fascinated by the incredible power of nature that can be felt everywhere. But during the last years things have changed. The amount of icebergs is increasing savagely. Glaciers I'm visiting every year a...

Expedition to the cold heart of Greenland - What happens in a world without ice? | DW Documentary
A voyage of discovery, across huge expanses of ice. This film follows three of the world’s leading glaciologists on their pioneering scientific expeditions to Greenland’s massive ice sheet, a place that could harbor secrets about the future of life on Earth.

Falling in Love With GREENLAND!
Greenland is a beautiful and magical place you will fall in love with! This travel video shows you what this country is like and how impressive the nature is!
This country has so much to offer when it comes to fauna, flora and landscapes. Some places are so unique and really don't seem to belong on planet Earth. They can only be described as magical.
Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe for more than a millennium. In 2008, the people of Greenland passed a referendum supporting greater autonomy; 75% of votes cast were in favour. Greenland ...

Despite our attempt at keeping our Greenland Travel Documentary as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting clips.
Hunting:
The people of Greenland hunt seals, whales, and dolphins. Other than fish, these marine mammals are an important food source. Every part of the animal is used. Still, among some, this type of hunting will spark outrage. However, understand that very little grows in Greenland, as the summer lasts only around 2 months. Most fruits and vegetables, as well as all other types of food, need to be imported, causing high transport costs and emissions and resulting in astronomical prices. No citizen of Europe or North America has any right to judge the lifestyle of these people who rely on locally available, sustainable food sources.
Do we prefer whales swimming wild and free in the ocean? 100%. However, in our daily lives, most of us have the luxury of buying everything we could think of in a nearby supermarket. Greenlanders do not have that option.
Greenlanders know where their food comes from. Most of us in the West do not. It is easy to judge people and their lifestyles even if we know little about them. And if after all of that, you still believe Greenlanders should stop hunting seals, you are placing ideology above reason.
Full Disclosure:
This trip was supported by Visit Greenland. The tourism board paid for our flights from Iceland to Kulusuk as well as our helicopter flight from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq. Moreover, they supported us by funding some of the activities. Additionally, we didn’t have to pay for the trips with Tasiilaq Tours and Nunatak Adventures.
From the Greenland National Museum & Archive website:-
“The last 50 years have brought new perspectives on the significance of Hans Egede's influence on Greenland. In 1971, Greenland's 250th anniversary was celebrated in different ways, but largely expressed a very romantic notion of Hans Egede as a father-type figure to Greenland and the country's union with Christendom. Now in 2021, Hans Egede's arrival is seen in a more nuanced way. The focus is on reconciling a complicated past with the benefit of perspective and a more thoughtful understanding of the enduring influence of Christianity on Greenlandic society and culture. This includes changing political perspectives that have in recent years shifted public expressions of the 1721 anniversary from jubilant affairs to more respectful observances.”

Glaciers I'm visiting every year are retreating not meters but kilometers a year and the unending amount of ice seems to be endless. There is nothing more beautiful than an iceberg - everyone is unique and the light reflecting from its surface is magical. It's sad how close beauty and decay can be seen in an iceberg. This movie is is an appreciation to the ice - for me the most amazing aggregate state of water.
Behind the scenes
For this short film I travelled to Greenland with my drones several times. Always with the target of a certain region in a certain light situation. The shots from the calving glacier took me 4 days at the Eqi Glacier and over 70 battery charges for only 4 usable shots of a few seconds. It's a very hard intention to film the very right moment on a glacier front of about 6km wide - especially close up. But the hardest thing of flying in Greenland is the fact, that every 2-3 minutes the difference between the magnetic north and the geographic north (which are not the same place - especially so far north) causing a fatal p-gps flight error and the drone is flying away (also the camera's horizon). But at the end every single flight was worth it - filming Icebergs from above is one of the most beautiful things I've ever done. Additionally I used the drone to scout the landing spot and look for polar bears. The best thing for bears and humans is to not meet each other on shore.

A voyage of discovery, across huge expanses of ice. This film follows three of the world’s leading glaciologists on their pioneering scientific expeditions to Greenland’s massive ice sheet, a place that could harbor secrets about the future of life on Earth.
"Into the Ice” is a documentary about science, nature and a spirit of adventure. It’s about scientists who’ve dedicated their lives to exploring the secrets of our future that lie concealed within the ice.
The documentary accompanies three of the world’s leading glaciologists on their pioneering expeditions to Greenland’s ice sheet: the serene, legendary Dorthe Dahl-Jensen, the sensitive, politically engaged Jason Box and the daring, fearless Alun Hubbard. They share the idea that climate research can’t rely on satellite data and computer models alone. If they want to arrive at conclusive results, scientists also need to be right where the changes are taking place. All three are focused on the collection of new, decisive data that could help us answer some of the crucial questions of our era: How fast is the ice melting? How quickly are sea levels rising?
Director Lars Ostenfeld is an experienced nature documentary filmmaker. In "Into the Ice", he follows leading scientists to one of the wildest and most extreme landscapes in the world, to find out more about the ice sheet’s unpredictable processes.

Come join us as we navigate great conversation and sewing. Kim and I will be making the Cotton Cuts Color Challenge Block of the Month. It'll probably be January's or February's block! For you Cotton Cuts Subscribers, you should have said card! Join us and sew and color for a chance to win a prize when you submit either your sewn block or colored card or both!!
After that stay and sew longer and I put binding on the quilt with no name! I am so happy to have been able to share from start to finish the creation of this cute lil quilt. Speaking of the "Quilt With No name." I have posted the poll for names in both the Greenland Quilter Group as well as on my Community. I am going to narrow the names down and place them in both places for you to answer! Please go and participate. I need you to vote!
Mona (Mona Did What) and Tammy (SiberianWind) will both be sewing something as well and will share with all of you. Lets keep the momentum going during this live and see what we can do to have a lovely time!!
There's a certain charm and satisfaction that comes from the process of stitching together blocks and turning it into something beautiful. It's a wonderful way to indulge our creativity while also producing something practical and beautiful that we can snuggle with once we're done or to give it to someone who will enjoy it as much!
In the comment section down below, tell me where you're viewing from! Tell us what WIP or UFO you worked on while we sewed or wanted to while watching the live. What are your favorite fabric lines and who are your favorite quilt pattern designers?

Greenland is, in area, the world's largest island, over three-quarters of which is covered by the only contemporary ice sheet outside of Antarctica. With a population of 56000, it is the least densely populated country in the world.
The few land mammals in Greenland include polar bear, reindeer, musk ox, arctic fox, wolf, stoat, and arctic hare. There are dozens of species of seals and whales along the coast.
Over 100 species of birds have been seen, and around 50 breed in Greenland. There are very occasionally low forests of birch or willow and, in all, around 500 plant species.
